Hello out there,

I would also be potentially interested in automating the logon at Midtier
without having to type anything like a username and I think the environment:

- Windows
- LDAP

is not that much uncommon (though I'm not a authentication or other field guru
:-) and I would expect that to be somewhat supported with a working solution by
the vendor (BMC) ... that is when saying that the domain login is the same as
the Remey login - not too uncommon as well I suppose.

When having looked at the SSO document in the past, from my understanding in
the above environment the SSO system used would then be "LDAP" ... in general I
think the SSO document is nice, when using other 3rd party SSO systems (you can
authenticate then there with a user/pw combination). It think that is the main
aim of the document (I may be wrong).

I'm always a bit confused that the authentication process at the SSO document
passes the actual password ... I thought the best approach would be comparing
tokens ... but as said above, don't know much/anything about that. And that of
course is only true/may work like that at the above stated "pretty common"
environment.

Going to dig through the archive again and try to come up with something that
tells me how to bypass the login page at Midtier @ Windows with LDAP
automatically and without having to even type the user name. Have not seen an
"dummy solution description" when looking for that in the past ... I might have
missed though and/or there is/can't not be such a solution. If there are posted
aproaches out there, I then did not recognize them due to not understanding
them :-) ... if anyone has a lead to such a descriptive posting, please let me
know. I can forward that internally then to someone more knowledge with the
Windows domain/authentication concept/programming skills.

However, again. I think such a common environment should be more supported by
BMC. From the slides the Javasystems Solutions sounds like exactly what is
needed. Also they seem to able to help you with exactly that above environment
and (simple/common requested?) feature - login the windows user w/o having him
to type anything, he has the same login ID at Remedy anyway (note: have not
tried them, just the impression when having a look at the slides).

That's what I mean when saying I would wish BMC to be more active at this
special area ... but then, there needs to be some space left for 3rd party
vendors as well :-)

Cheers from Germany,
Robert

Yes it is possible. Remedy has a white paper "Integrating ARSystem with
Single Sign-On (SSO) authentication systems" that describes it. Several
people on the list have done this (check the list archives for posts on
Single Sign-On)

Subject: Auto login in the WEB - possible?

Hello,

Our customer wants to have an ability to log in into help desk (in the
WEB) without filling login and password every time.

Does somebody have an idea how to implement web-autologin function?
Login should be provided only first time http://helpdesk page visiting.

I tried IE ability of automatic field filling (it was available in KB
area), but it doesn't work and require login filling.

Kind regards,
Alexander
