OK, I found a fix. As I said before, some of my paths have ","'s in
them. The ones with a "," were being enclosed in quotes (" "). The
others were having the "\"'s stripped out of the path during the import.
In excel, I enclosed all the paths in quotes (" ") which caused the
resulting .csv file to look like this """c:\abc\def\ghi""". When I
import this back into Remedy I get "c:\abc\def\ghi" in my character
field which seems to work fine and all the links open.
At least now I know that fields containing a "," are going to give me
grief when trying to use .csv files to import.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Ok, I have found out a few more details. You can't see it when viewing
the .csv in excel, but when viewing in a text editor you can see that
some of the paths are being enclosed in "". From what I can tell, it
seems to be doing this to the paths that contain ","'s. It makes sense
that it would since it is a , delimited file. It sees the "," in the
cell and encloses the field in "'s. Now I have to figure out a way
around it. So far I have been unsuccessful, but at least I know what and
why it is doing it.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get around this?

Hi Andy
Could it be that your CSV file is wrapping some of the paths (with
spaces in
them) in quotes, and others (without spaces) not??

It's even weirder than I first thought. After closer examination I have
found that it only does this to approximately 30% of the records. I can
not
find any pattern to it and it appears to be totally random at this time.
I am exporting data from Remedy to .csv, making some modifications then
importing back into Remedy via the import tool. After the import the
"\"'s
are missing from the paths on about 30% of the records.
I have tried creating another temp char field and importing it, but I
got
the same results.

Hi
I am having ARsystem 7.x and gone through the same query that is one of
the fields contain path (F:/ab/cd/efg/) and then exported the data &
then by
using AR Import tool imported the same on a new form but i have not
found
any error in this process, that is i have got the same path
(F:/ab/cd/efg/)
without removal of /'s. So please let me know the actual process in
which
you are facing the problem.
Thanks,
Rakesh
