You might want to look at doing this in a Perl script attached with ARSPerl

Subject: macro in background

Hello ars listers,

I'm trying to run a macro from the command line that will find and update a
record while running in the background. I'm wondering if this is possible.

I have a macro that runs in the background and creates a record using a
submit action. I have another macro that queries for a record and does a
screen pop of a modify window, but what I really want to do is to query for
a record and change a field and then do a save...without seeing anything on
screen.

Maybe a macro could call another macro???
