Oh absolutely Rick -I agree with you 100%. I've been
administrating/configuring (and doing other things ala Remedy) for about
10 years and I installed the 7.x ITSM suite in all its gory...I mean
glory, took one look, couldn't figure out how to make myself Admin and
said -oooooops, now I need training. Had to scramble to discover the
APP-Admin user, couldn't determine easily what licenses to apply for
users, apps - oh my...it was a mess. Lucky for me they put the project
on hold. And I had previously sailed through an entire upgrade of
full-ITSM from 5.0 to 6.0 without hardly breaking a sweat and managing
it as a one-woman show from beginning to end.

Hmmmm, now where did you guys say that info on MS Service Suite was?

LOL - Have a grand weekend all

:-)

Julie, that is one big project you're undertaking. I don't know what
your exposure to the ITSM 7 suite is, but if that and/or ITIL are pretty
foreign to you, I would definitely recommend getting some help, at least
to get things set up and running. The main reason is that only BMC and
its consulting partners can take the class that shows how to install and
configure the ITSM 7 applications, and it isn't something that even an
experienced Remedy developer would be able to easily do on one's own.

There are some good posts on ITSM 7 from some guys and gals who've been
there - you can search the archives from any number of places, including
www.arslist.org, though some find other front-ends easier to use.

We are starting to plan our upgrade from 6.3 to 7.x. (as well
corresponding
ARS and CMDB upgrades, and, to make things interesting, a move from
Oracle
db to SQL).

I know there are a lot of posts here with questions/answers/advice. Was

wondering if anyone had suggestion on how best to peruse those?

And/or I am also looking at BMC support site and have found some
webcasts
as well as WBT's that look interesting, so if there any suggestions on
other good information on that site, that would be welcome.

One thing we are trying to determine sooner than later is whether we
will
need consultant assistance with this or if we can do most on own (1
admin
with 2 yrs of experience, 1 new one).

Thank you,

Julie
