Hmmm... First things first, John. I'd say a fixing web services should come
first; then they can work on an XML engine. ;-) And I agree with you. That'd
be nice.

That said, people *are* using the .NET API, whether it's supported or not.
I've had a handful of gigs over the past couple of years where I used it.
Sometimes you need tighter coupling to your custom client and greater
throughput than an XML interface can support.

It seems to me the results of a poll won't sway BMC one way or the other with
respect to official support of the API. The Java interface is crucial to them
because of Mid Tier and the Email Engine. However, there's no product or
revenue stream that's pushing BMC to support officially the COM/.NET wrapper.
I can't see what would elevate it past the "nice to have" level.

Perhaps the best model here is to open up the .NET code under the Apache (or
similar) license. BMC would still have the final say as to what goes into the
main code line, but they might be interested in the community's input. Heck,
I'd love to contribute (sweat equity?), if I could. You never know where it
all might lead -- maybe someday an ADO.NET wrapper for Remedy. Now that'd
really be nice.

Don't laugh. Who would have ever thought that Sun would open up Java and
Solaris?

Finally, I'd like to praise the .NET API. Granted, BMC threw us a real curve
ball when they changed object names in 7.0, but it's a nice, solid bit of work.
Unlike the Remedy Java API, the .NET API is actually object oriented, and it
isn't afraid to use plain old objects like Strings and ArrayLists. It's as if
somebody who knew how to program in C# wrote it. Imagine that!
