We use ITSM7 and have a heap of 1gb. I would leave it at 1gb even if we were just ARS -- in order to avoid the message you get. :-) I'd set it to 2 if I could.
Are you constrained with memory on your web server? Why not set it at 1gb? -- Tony Worthington Sr. Technical Analyst Kohl's Department Stores [EMAIL PROTECTED] 262-703-5911 "Kemes, Lisa" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent by: "Action Request System discussion list(ARSList)" <[email protected]> 10/03/2007 11:15 AM Please respond to [email protected] To [email protected] cc Subject Re: Tomcat Using Full CPU on Win2003 ** I created a ticket with BMC and they looked at the logs and said that we needed to increase our Java Heap size to 1GB. We have a Windows 2003 Mid Tier server with 2GB of RAM (7.0.1 Patch 3) and there are other apps on this server, so 1GB seemed a little excessive, so I asked "Is there a formula to figure what size the Java Heap should be?" They replied: There is no formula for calculating the heap size. The default heap size on Tomcat is 64mb.Our recommendation to increase the heap size is based on the error we're seeing in the Tomcat log. For large applications such as ITSM 6 we recommend a heap size of 512mb and for larger applications such as ITSM 7, we recommend 1G. Well, we don't have ITSM 6 or 7, just AR System and Mid Tier. We've increased to 128MB so far. But my question is, does anyone have a formula or an idea of what the heap size should be? Also, does anyone have their Tomcat performance or logs monitored to notify when it's over the heap size (when the log says: Java.lang.OutOfMemory: Java Heap Space)? Move or delete the Catalina dir (fine it in \Tomcat 5.5\work\ dir). It will rebuild after restarting the tomcat service. Also watch the cpu usage after stopping the tomcat service. Wait till it drops before manually restarting the service. It would be in Tomcat\bin -- tcnative-1.dll or tcnative.dll I found that deleting/renaming the file fixed my 100% cpu issues. I also use mod_jk which I think plays into the problem. http://archive.netbsd.se/?ml=tomcat-dev&a=2006-11&t=2659074 If that's not the issue maybe someone else can give you further insight... -tony -- Tony Worthington Sr. Technical Analyst Kohl's Department Stores [EMAIL PROTECTED] 262-703-5911 "Kemes, Lisa" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent by: "Action Request System discussion list(ARSList)" <[email protected]> 09/25/2007 10:20 AM Please respond to [email protected] To [email protected] cc Subject Tomcat Using Full CPU on Win2003 ** We have production ARS 7.0.1 Mid-Tier Server down due to the tomcat process taking a full CPU (spinning).
