According to the US Department of State's website <http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1082.html> , </> "Land and sea travelers are encouraged to have a valid U.S. passport. If they do not have a passport, they should be prepared to provide a government-issued photo ID (e.g. Driver's License) and proof of U.S. citizenship such as a U.S. birth or naturalization certificate." In addition, the Canadian Embassy <http://www.connect2canada.com/bordertravelupdate/> 's website says: "This is a reminder that Canadians and Americans can continue to cross the Canada-U.S. border by land and sea without a passport for at least the remainder of 2007." If you don't, it's a little late to get one, so bring the best you have (Birth cert., voter's registration, etc., not JUST a driver's license) - a passport is NOT a hard requirement yet, but expect to be lectured on getting a passport by the U.S. Border people, and to be more heavily scrutinized than those that do. The problem isn't with getting into Canada, it's with getting BACK into the U.S. Here's the link to the U.S. Border Patrol's website, for the best information. http://www.customs.gov/xp/cgov/travel/vacation/ready_set_go/ Rick On 10/10/07, Opela, Gary L Contr OC-ALC/ITMA <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: I also heard that they just re-instated the new passport rules for traveling outside of the United States. I'm not sure how this affects Canada, as I am not traveling to RUG this year.... Just checked with AT&T and their rate is 0.79 per min and you can add a package for 5.99 and it will drop the rate to 0.59 per min. While you won't have a problem with coverage, you might ask your cellular provider about some sort of different package (I know that Verizon offers one) that includes Canada, for a higher flat rate that will be cheaper than even a relatively small number of roaming minutes (at $0.50~ per).
