I stand corrected - that passport rule applied in January of THIS year, not next year. Here's an excerpt from one of their .pdfs that may help some of you, *though it, too, has an expired date*: (but who knows, they may have extended it)
"...DHS and State recently announced that U.S. citizens traveling to Canada...who have applied for but have not yet received passports can temporarily enter and depart from the United States by air with a government issued photo identification and Department of State official proof of application for a passport through Sept. 30, *2007*. The federal government is making this accommodation for air travel due to longer than expected processing times for passport applications in the face of record-breaking demand..." I also noticed that the passport requirements for land-based travel are not in effect until January 2008, so maybe flying into Seattle and driving up (about a 4 hour drive from SeaTac, plus whatever wait time at the border) is an option for those without passports. A Driver's license is usually enough there. Note also that wait times at the ground stations can be VERY long, due to some expansion construction that's long overdue. Here's a web site that maybe you can put on your PDAs to check on the fastest route on any given day. The two entry points in the town of Blaine are the ones you're looking for. http://apps.cbp.gov/bwt/ Rick On 10/10/07, Rick Cook <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > If you have a passport, bring it - it's just less hassle.
