That's kinda what I was thinking. Thank you for the quick and
informative responses! We just added another ARSer* in-training to our
team with the same "classical" programming background that I have and he
was having the same difficulties wrapping his brain around the Remedy
way. I think we're going to continue down this road now that we
validated our concerns.

I am doing this extensively. It does involve a lot more coding, but
when it's done, it's awesome. In my experience, the Remedy GUI methods
of SUBMIT/MODIFY/SEARCH are somewhat foreign to people who come from the
world of more "traditional" Windows and web apps.
There are certain things you have to do through the native form, of
course--complex advanced searches and importing data through the Import
tool. But I've found my users much prefer using display-only forms for
the day-to-day activities of submitting and modifying records.

I'm toying with the idea of using regular forms for data storage only
and using display forms for all user interactions. while I realize this
entails more "coding", I think I would have a greater deal of control
over behavior of the user interface. Has anyone tried this already? Am
