I think you might be missing a crucial step. I installed the Oracle
client on my pc and on the server and then setup the Oracle ODBC Driver. I
think the ms drivers may be problematic. Once you install that if you can
use SQLPlus to connect and run queries, then you shouldn't have any
issues. If you did install the Oracle client, contact me off list and
I'll help you troubleshoot that if you'd like.

Ben,
Thanks for the information. Did you run into any problems with Oracle
ODBC driver and interpreting the data? We've had an instance where we've
tried to hit the database directly only to find it in a format that wasn't
readable.

Thanks,

Amy,

In my environment, I have Business Objects Enterprise, so I'm able to
direct my users to our BO server URL. There they can navigate to the
folders of interest run whichever report they want. I realize this is not
an option for most admins, but if its doable, it gives you a lot more
freedom with how you develop the reports. Additionally, its on the users
to run/schedule them.

Reporting in 7.x

**
Hello All,
I've seen numerous postings concerning the various ways to implement
reporting and getting around the limitations of the AR ODBC driver.
(running Linux over an Oracle db)

We have a healthy amount of reports used on a weekly basis. Some are
pulled real time and some are scheduled. I had some concerns out doing
the subreporting if these take longer to run than doing join forms. My
concern with doing join forms is that as new report requests come in, the
design change of creating the join form will need to go through our
Development, QA, Production process and could take time.

Also, I noticed Ben from Avon said they use the Oracle ODBC driver
directly to the database. Are you reporting from within Remedy with the
results or are you using a separate reporting area? I'm working on the
test case of that scenario to see how it works, but would like some
additional information on this option if anyone has one.

If anyone found it was better to use a reports server with the data timely
copied there please let me know. I'm wondering about performance hitting
the production database.

Thanks,
Amy J.
