I also hated the idea of doing it that way, but I was a little concerned
about having fields stacked on top of each other using the AL hide/show
field action.

I may look into trying different views based on which function they are
trying to perform. I've never really created different views on our
forms, but from what I remember from the admin classes, it was not that
difficult. 

When you say separate UI's, are you talking about just having different
views of the form based on what the user wants to do? That is probably a
dumb question, but I am not up to speed on all my acronyms.

That approach should work. (Technically) I however (IMO), believe it
is a poor way to build things.

If you have to use Change Field actions to do this... Why not use
hide/show actions with different fields?
If you can choose not to use Change Field actions... Why not use
different Display only input UI's for the users?

My personal opinion is that separate input UI's will be more scalable,
maintainable, and more easily customizable in the future.
