I was getting an error...I don't recall if it was an RPC error or not, took forever to figure out...it was only happening when there were ~> 2000 records returned. I opened a support ticket and they supposedly fixed it in 7.1 Patch 2, but I haven't tested to verify. Can you look at your mid-tier logs at the time you get the error and see if it generates an error, that will help me determine if it's the same problem or not
