I have just started a new contract with a client that is running ARSystem/AIE 7.1.00 Patch 002 and CMDB 2.0.1 patch 004.
They are receiving discovery data from a number of sources (including Marimba) which are being brought into the system via EIE/AIE and then Reconciled into the CMDB. The short version of the story is that the AIE mappings and the CMDB Reconciliation jobs were configured incorrectly and the system is full of duplication (anywhere from 2 to 600 copies each). This is for CI's and dependencies/relationships. One of the identity rules used look like this: ( 'Name' = $Name' AND 'InstanceId' = $InstanceId$ ). Discovered and undiscovered CI's will have different reconciliation Identity numbers. We are trying to figure out how to remove all the duplication in the production system. We were thinking of using AIE to pull the data from our Production system, into our QA environment and then reconcile this data against an empty bmc.asset. In theory this sounds like it word work, however, will the reconciliation look at and identify the duplicates within the same dataset before merging it into asset? Another avenue that is being discussed is uring SQL on the backside to remove duplication. Not the avenue I would take due to corrupting the system. I talked with someone who use to work for BMC for a number of years and they had mentioned that there was a tool out there that could help remove duplication, but it was not the easiest tool to work with. Does anyone know of, or heard of this tool? I am looking for any suggestions on how we could go about removing the current duplication. We have gone back and reworked the AIE Mappings and corrected most of the Reconciliation job rules to stop any further problems from showing up. Thanks in advance, Brent... _______________________________________________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org Platinum Sponsor: www.rmsportal.com ARSlist: "Where the Answers Are"
