Okay, after answering questions about Crystal Reporting and mid-tier based on my production setup, which was built last October and works just fine, I have now rebuilt my complete web setup for development on new Win2K3 R2 Ent servers and can share the fact that some of the same roadblocks I hit last October still have NOT been fixed. Since it all makes very little sense, I thought I should re-cap it here.
I am running Crystal Reports Server XI Sp4 ... NOT R2 or R3, since we bought it with Crystal Reports Professional XI in early 2006 specifically to support ARS 7.x, and have had no reason to update it. I install it on IIS 6.0 with .NET 2.0 so that there is no chance that it will compete with Tomcat for the JVM. Mid-tier 7.1.00 from no patch to patch 004 absolutely will NOT recognize that CR XI is installed and REFUSES to install the AR Crystal Web Application. Period. This is still an open defect from my report last October, and has NOT been fixed. SW00273615. Even if you are trying to upgrade a mid-tier 7.0.01 that already has the AR Crystal Web Application installed, 7.1 will gray out the selection, and on installation will wipe the AR Crystal Web Application out. Nice. I had so much fun with this last October that I had blotted out the memory, but now that I have re-lived the nightmare it is fresh again. Mid-Tier 7.0.01 through patch 008 always locates the Crystal Report Server XI correctly, and offers to install the AR Crystal Web Application, and when you check the box it does install it, and it DOES work. I just finished an install, and immediately opened the Reports Console in my dev mid-tier 7.1.00.004 that refers to the dedicated CR XI and mid-tier 7.0.01.008 server for reporting, and the report I selected opened almost immediately (the first time through it actually has to create the report directories on the CR XI server). So.... the caveat I forgot when telling people how to install a dedicated CR XI and mid-tier server recently, to support web reporting for your production mid-tier, is that you have to stick with 7.0.01 because 7.1.00 simply does not work. I am trying to enable web reporting via the midtier. I have sucessfully set up Crystal Report Server XI on a seperate machine using tomcat 5.0.27. I am in the process of installing the ARWebReportViewer on the crystal reports machine which does not have midtier and during the install (which is from the midtier exe) I am prompted with an error that "Web Server Not Found". Does anyone know what web server is compatible with ARWebReportViewer? If I proceed on the only options for web server and JSP engine is "Other". Any help is appreciated.
