Hello all,

My current employer is starting to get a bit VM (Virtual Machine)
crazy IMHO. And this question has been asked internally with no direct
experience to draw from. So I ask the ARSList to see if any of you
have "been there, done that" and know of any show stoppers, or
alligator pits that we need to be aware of.

Question: How do you clone an Linux Red Hat 5 AR System server?
Question Modifier: What else do you have to do if the AR System
server has ITSM v7 (Apps: IM,PM,SLM) installed?

Follow up Question:
Does BMC support an AR System server that was built and configured
in such a manor any differently than an AR System server that was
installed from install scripts on that host? (Assume that the first AR
System server/ITSM apps are installed via the normal install
scripts/processes.)

The basic idea/scenario would be something like this....

There is an AR System server group (two or more nodes) and one dies.
How can a new node be constructed and added to the group without
interruption to the existing node(s), or causing more performance
issues for on going production? Is it better to clone or to start from
scratch for the new node(s)?

Disclaimer: I am not aware of the exact virtual technologies that I am
asking about in this question. (So don't ask, I do not know.) However,
if there are specifics about your virtual technologies that you think
are relevant then please feel free to share. I will pass along any
virtual details to the people who run the virtual stuff. :) But we
can assume that any environment would be on the BMC compatibility
matrix.

Some obvious things like the following come to our minds, but we
likely are missing some things...
1) get new AR System server key (for the new host)
2) check/fix AR System server (ar.conf:Map-IP-Address,
Server-Plugin-Alias, IP-Name, ... )
3) Maybe check/fix Flashboard/AREmail/AIE/etc... config files(s)
4) add the new host to the "AR System Server Group Operation Ranking"
form (with correct rank values)

Thanks in advance.

I am really trying to only focus on:
) To clone or not to clone AR System servers
and
) If starting with a clone then how to make the AR System server work
and "know thyself".

Really not trying to dig into things like:
) why this virtual tech is better than that virtual tech
) details of mechanics of how to add/remove nodes from the server group
) details of mechanics of how to add/remove hosts from load balancers
 ) etc...
( But all of that would be welcomed in addition to the stuff we are
really after. AKA: "Watch out for that tree!" :) )

I think we have already reviewed all BMC docs/whitepaper/etc... but
any references to "good docs" are most welcome too. ( To make sure we
got them all. :) )

Thanks in advance.
