Even if it isn't certified for it, MS-SQL has a way to make itself compatible 
with applications that are compatible with the earlier versions of the 
database. There is a stored proceedure sp_dbcmptlevel that you can use to drop 
the compatibility level of the database to the desired level..
 
I have used that successfully in the past with ARS after an upgrade of the 
database caused the AR Server to disconnect with the database..
