Thanks, Louise. Did you uninstall between tries, or just run the install script again...and again?
BTW, one of those arcane problems is that the uninstall script for CMDB does not run. Neither does the Add/Remove programs. Maybe it's just me, but I would think that if I ran a software department, and we completely changed the installer methodology, that testing the snot out of that new methodology prior to release would be a prudent thing. But, maybe that's just me.
