You can copy the file system on Unix/Linux and update the configuration files; it's not so simple on Windows. You have to deal with the registry... Not something I am really keen on learning. I would imagine that a ghost image should suffice as long as you can deal with all the other registry updates (domain membership, server information, hostname, etc.).
