6.3 had 254 characters too in the Login Name. If I recollect right that change
happened between 5.x to 6.0

Cyberhut, another consideration you may need to account for is the version of
your current database. It may or may not be compatible with the next release
you want to jump to, so if you really need someone who has gone through your
exact same path to comment on how they went about it, it may help if you let
the list know what database and version you are on and what OS and its version
you are currently on.

Unless you were looking for a really broad and a very generic roadmap..

Joe

We are also a pure custom shop and we upgraded the server from 5.x to 6.3 to
7.1.

The 5 to 6.3 updated license format (You send your license files to Remedy
through the Support Web and they send you back a file with both the 5 and 6.3
formats in it).  This also went through the users and changed the way the
passwords were encrypted.

The version 6.3 to 7.1 upgrade changed all the standard fields that hold a
login (Submitter, Last Modified By, Login Name) to be 254 characters, and moved
the license info from the license file into the database.
