I did that first and then could start services, connect to db through
SQL client and connect through UT as other user accounts but could not
connect through UT as ARAdmin and also could not run the ARS upgrade
because it could authenticate ARAdmin.

I'm not sure if the arcache command that I ran added a temporary user
with the login of ARAdmin or if it updated the current ARAdmin with the
password that I specified. All I know for sure is that the upgrade
authenticated the user and processed fine and I have had no other issues
concerning that account either.

Hello,

You can change manually db password In ar.cfg file.

You can change the password in parameter: Db-password

You can use clear text to change this password. And after this you
should change again password on server information to encrypt this
password in ar.cfg file.

Actually the command that I posted worked. I could access the db through
SQL fine and the service would start and connect but I could not connect
through the User Tool with those same credentials. After running the
command I could access the UT and proceed with upgrading from 7.5p1 to
7.5p3.

The password for ARAdmin was changed at the db level by dba's prior to
my connection attempts

Tommy,

The arcache utility will not be of any use to you to set the ARAdmin
(database user) password. This utility has options to reset the
Administrator account in case of an accidental deletion of that user
loosing all administrative access to the AR System.

To reset the ARAdmin user password, you could do that from the AR Server
information. One of the tab called Database, will have a field to reset
that password.

In the very odd case that you cannot do it from there for whatever
reasons, you can reset the password from the database client, and then
enter the password in the DB-Password line of the ar.conf file in clear
text. The server while restarting will use this 'clear text' password.
I'm not sure if it will remain in clear text, but if it does, reset it
from the AR Server Information, and on resetting it from there it will
encrypt the password in the configuration file..

Hope this helps..

Cheers

Joe

Ok just so that when I need to do this again and I can't
remember... the command is arcache.exe -Ua -e000000000000001 -n"ARAdmin"
-p"<password>"

        Where -Ua = User add/update

-e = EntryID of the user

                        -n = User Name

                        -p = password

Thanks again Bill for getting me on track.

That's the right attitude, but it sounds like you need it now.
Good luck.

Does anyone know the utility and commands to reset the ARAdmin
password? I cannot log into the UT and cannot upgrade because the
password is out of sync. I have ran this once with BMC before but was
dumb and did not jot it down. Must have this environment upgraded by
Sunday evening so if anyone can help I'll email you the beer of your
choice.
