Changes on the MS-SQL server have been far more inconsistent with previously adhered conventions when it comes to case sensitivity while logging in. Oracle has been far more consistent at every version / patch change since I've known Oracle since about 1998. Even with the current version of Oracle, the default is that the login user name and password is not case sensitive..
