Sandy,

In a case like yours, it all boils down to whether or not you have a good
business case for the change. You say your home grown apps are finely tuned to
your business needs. Would your business justification for a change to the OTB
apps outweigh your home grown apps and the risks involved going for a change?

You might run a road where many users might go "Oh that previous app had this,
how can I do that in these apps". What is your gap between your home grown apps
and the OTB apps?

Since you'll are already using ARS, as the platform for your current home grown
apps, migrating data to build the foundation data for the new apps may not be
the biggest problem. Retraining your users to use a completely different
application may be a bigger task. You might want to demo the out of the box
apps
to some of your key users especially agents on a service desk if you'll have
one. These will be the less technical users who might be a little more opposed
to change than the more technical second line support users..

Joe

Subject: Has your company converted from custom to off-the-shelf BMC apps?

**
I work for a large manufacturing company who has been a BMC Remedy customer for
over 10 years. We used ARS to develop our own incident, problem, request, and
change modules. Our systems are quite sophisticated and finely tuned to our
business processes. We are in the process of evaluating changing to the ‘off
the
shelf’ modules from BMC to line up more consistently with our companies ‘off
the
shelf’ software strategy. We’re looking for other BMC customers who have been
down this path already (converting from in house custom apps to off the shelf).
The modules we are looking at are Service Desk, SRM, CMDB, and SLM. We are a
global company, with over 60,000 employees. If you are a large BMC customer who
started with your own customized apps and then converted to the off the shelf
modules I refer to, we’d love to talk with you about your experiences.
