Basically, if you follow ITIL, you will have multiple CMDBs, not all of which are in Atrium. For example, if your network team uses Cisco Works, and your desktop support people use LANDesk to support their assets, why would you duplicate the content of those databases into Remedy? Instead you will have to deal with federation, which depending on what tools are in your environment, may mean different things to implement. With all that being said, here are the topics I would want to understand if I were in your shoes. Note that there could be multiple classes or no classes for each topic, but if you have a good understanding of each of these you will be very proficient while working with the CMDB. Also, I focus a lot on Asset Management because in my opinion (which doesn't line up with ITIL), the CMDB is more of an offshoot of the Asset Management practice rather than being a distinct entity, especially in ITSM. This is one beast unique in the Remedy platform that I am yet to conquer. As far as I am concerned, i'ts like a tumor that I didn't pay attention to when it was small and now it feels it has progressed beyond control. Suggestions on learning path? Sequence of books from BMC support site, trainings? I can do Web Based Training, would prefer not to do class-based trainings for now now. The objective is to start with basic understanding, some administration. Would eventually like to progress to architecture/design. Thanks in advance. _______________________________________________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org attend wwrug10 www.wwrug.com ARSlist: "Where the Answers Are" Private and confidential as detailed here: http://www.sug.com/disclaimers/default.htm#Mail .
