Martin, We asked BMC/Remedy the same question a while ago. The answer is you can't. It was also explained to us that the number of users really doesn't matter. At least it doesn't matter from a number of connections point of view.
In the MidTier configuration there is a setting for the number of connections to the AR System server. The default is 80. It turns out that the way MidTier functions is really efficient. There is a connection from the MidTier to the AR System server while the user is performing an action or what was referred to as a gesture. As soon as the action/gesture is completed, the connection is freed up. We were told a single connection could serve 10 users if actions/gestures were infrequent. From a Java memory use perspective, some folks have posted numbers for how much memory each user would/could use. I not sure if those numbers are only valid with using the ITSM products of if they would be the same for lighter home grown apps.
