Yes ARSPerl is one option. You can also just use Perl and SOAP::Lite to call
an ARS Web Service.

Another option, depending on whether the outside system's person needs to be
able to update/review the data passed, is just opening a web browser and
passing the data.

** So if Web Services are not available, then ....
ARSPERL is one option

But I was thinking BMC would come up with a little Java Widget or ARPLUGIN
heterogeneous app of some kind.
doing two things 1 telling you what to fill in (mandatory fields, and optionals
if you want) and menu's with selectable options, press a button and create a
config.
Secondly that you just call an executable, and pass the config with a couple of
variables -f (field) # "text" , Like the Email using HTML forms..
and it does it..

This way any application can inject into the remedy system any way you need.

I remember a company motto of: "We can't prevent change, but we can adapt"

In your scenario, it would be more appropriate to make such call using Web
Services or through the (Java) API.
The only other common scenario that has been presented to me was repetitive
tasks - i.e. entering multiple tickets where the data in the majority of fields
are the same but one or two fields need to be changed each time. That may be
solvable through a different mechanism that macros - e.g. creating a feature
that enables the creation of a "template" with one or two fields accepting a
variable input.
On the issue of exporting reports, there are tentative plans in a future
release to implement scheduling and automated publishing of the web reports
generated through AR System. That would address the most common scenario for
command line export of reports.
If there are other common scenarios that cannot be fulfilled through other
methods besides macros, folks on the list are encouraged to post the use case /
user stories for them.

** Lets say... a vendor has an application that calls the runmacro.exe to
create a ticket in the remedy system, because it has no way to plug into the
system.

but at some event it triggers the call and submits a ticket.
