I had some issues doing new installs with some of the 7.5 patches (there is a thread in the archives). One thing I have gotten into the habit of doing (if permissible) is to create new sys admin account in the db just for the installation. This seems to work better than using SA, a Windows sys admin account or ARAdmin. Once the initial install finishes I delete the account and upgrades/patches work fine from there as ARAdmin.
