Lisa, One of the hiccups I had when starting to use web services was the proxy server settings for Java, They need to be configured in the admin tool (File > Preferences > General tab, the field at the bottom) as well as on the server. I had configured the server, but overlooked the part about the admin tool. More details can be found in the "Integrating with Plug-ins and Third-Party Products" guide.
