You have to look at what you want to achieve with the integration: - how reliable does the integration need to be; do you need guaranteed message delivery - do you want to impose certain technical requirements on your end users (must use browser X version Y) - does the integration need to be real time - does the integration need to be synchronous - does the integration drive some capability that the end user needs to see - is the integration a back-end hand-off
