I can only recommend 7.6.03 or 7.6.04 SP1. IMHO, any rev of 7.5 and the
initial release of 7.6.04 have problems that you won't want to have to fight.
I'll answer this as if you have ITSM Suite components as well, for the benefit
of others that do. This is with Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 (newer
servers are R2), and both SQL Server 2005 (for ARS 7.1) and 2008 (after ARS has
been upgraded).

I just finished a fairly clean upgrade stream on a staging server using this
path, from a clone of production, adapted from BMC Support (Atrium support)
recommendations:

ARS from 7.1.00.002 to 7.1.00.011 to 7.5.00.007 to 7.6.03 to 7.6.04 SP1

CMDB from 2.1.00.002 to 2.1.00.006 to 7.6.00.002 to 7.6.03.001 to 7.6.04 SP1

AIE from 7.1.00.003 to 7.1.00.008 to 7.6.00.002 to 7.6.03.001 to 7.6.04 SP1

ITSM from 7.0.03.009 to 7.6.00.001 to 7.6.03 to 7.6.04 SP1

SLM from 7.1.00.002 to 7.6.00.001 to 7.6.03 to 7.6.04 SP1

I added the interim step to 7.6.03 because it had been very stable in my
testing last fall, and I need a place to stop and try to run the BPCU process.

For some reason the 7.1.00.011 installers for Assignment and Approval threw
errors, so I skipped them and took them directly from 7.1.00.002 to 7.5.00.007.
The AR server was actually at 7.1.00.003 to start, since that is the minimum
level for a direct jump to 7.6.04 (which I tried with much poorer results).

If you have RKM 7.2 installed, take the time to surgically remove all traces of
it first. No part of it is used by RKM 7.6.0x, and if you run the BPCU to
create overlays at any point it considers many RKM 7.2 fields to be
non-permitted. I only used BPCU to process prefixed customized workflow
between 7.6.03 and 7.6.04 SP1. Since I upgraded the apps first, and disabled
OOTB workflow had been updated and re-enabled, my customizations were converted
to Custom rather than overlays, and I actually preferred that.

I have never installed any of the web services for Atrium, ever, so I cannot
vouch for them at all.

Your mileage may vary, but I have blown the entire spring semester figuring
this out, delaying our migration forward.

Subject: Suggest upgrade from ARServer 7.1, patch 1 and RUT 6.0.1

** Good morning...We are about to upgrade our server and user tool from
ARServer 7.1, patch 1 and RUT 6.0.1. What is the recommended latest, greatest
and most stable version that you would suggest. We don't necessarily need the
newest version but we would like to install what is most stable to minimize our
growing pains. 7.5, patch X?

We are running on Windows 2005 and SQL 2008 (Unicode) and all of our
applications are homegrown.

Any suggestions would be most beneficial. What issues have you run into?

Thank you in advance.
