You could create a new user, grant select access to all the remedy owned
objects (tables and views), create synonyms for those objects for the new
user, then connect Remedy to the db using the new user.  This would ensure
that Remedy will not update any data.  I've never tested this, but it should
work.  There are some things that Remedy updates behind the scenes like AR
System User Preferences; not sure what the impact to the system is in these
cases.
