You have to manually change the long group name in the Group form. This is documented. What isn't documented is if you don't then your SLTs may not find the right group to notify.

However, it does not update any templates that are using that group. So, if have any change, work order, or Incident templates where use that support group, make sure to change the ownership first to another group or it could corrupt the templates. That has happened to me with infrastructure change templates. Make sure to check the group notification option on the support group after youve renamed it.
