Our CI are both hardware and applications.
Event Mgmt is one of the things that our mgmt is very concerned about.
Our monitors are very granular and we configured monitors for 
hardware(cpu,memory,disk io etc..), 
applications(urls,transactions,performance, logins, java heap size) and 
more.
