Hi :)

We used DSO for a project for several reasons:
1°) customers didn't have a DBA and had its production using DB2 and BO using Oracle (don't ask...),
2°) there was a tool from IBM (replication center) but as customer didn't have any DBA...,
3°) they wanted to retain 2 years of data on production, and 5 on archiving / reporting environment,

So we ended transfering 99.99% of regular forms using DSO (not the license or some CMDB or system forms). Amazingly it's working quite ok, we had to tweak a thing or two but it works ok in the end.
First sync (with around 2 millions records?) took about two days since we coded a console where they manually selected which form to transfer so they did it in several chunks.

Though I'm pretty sure there is a better solution if you're full Oracle. In the beginning of the project we were supposed to be full Oracle, so we planned to use DataGuard for that, then customer changed database engine and anyway there was the "problem" of the difference in the data retained in both environments, but we didn't look further since we stopped there.

So in my case:
Technology:
-> DSO.

Pros:
-> comes with ARS, no need for DBA to setup a replication solution,
-> "quite" easy to setup (need 2 filters per formular if you want to handle submit+modify and delete since those are two separate DSO operations),
-> kinda fast,
-> failover / retries is kinda nice,
-> flexibility,

Cons:
-> extra license,
-> be careful to determine what you want to transfer (not the licenses for example),
-> read the documentation on DSO carefully and do a lot of tests to avoid problems with menus and $PATTERN$,
-> a bit special to debug,
-> no DSO console for first sync,
-> you can't specify when exactly the transfer will launch, for example "each morning at 5 AM" like an escalation, you can "just" specify a frequency (each hour),
-> like I said if you need to have two years on production and 5 on reporting, you'll need to purge the production, but those operations shouldn't be "transfered" to reporting, so you'll need to add a flag or something and not transfer the "delete" order to the reporting if the flag is set,

Honnestly I wouldn't recommend that solution though. It was very specific to this project and we were very anxious transfering 2000+ regular form, and quite some of them "live" (5 minutes frequency).
Like I said, it's working, but that was quite some teamwork.

Dear All,

I would like to know if there is someone who has already built a solution that replicates ITSM data to a dedicated database for BMC Analytics (BO). Some technical options that could be used in our context are: Informatica IDR (ETL), Oracle Dataguard and Oracle Golden Gate. Does anyone use one of that technology and has some feedbacks from experiences (pros, cons, issues)?

Thanks in advance, Maxence
