There is a vendor form called "AR System Administration: Server Information". You could push to the single record there (representing values in ar.conf). If you do not have this form (I am not sure what release it was introduced), you could still use driver to set the appropriate values in the "server information variables". Meta-Update can do either option, can generate log file names as desired, and can be fired by cron or at.
