Mark,
Even if lets say these temp fields are not 'currently' used by BMC Software, they may have created them in preparation to use it in a forthcoming patch or release. I would not use them. They may have even created them in collaboration with third party software that they endorse to use with their own such as external knowledge bases
or communication and notification systems.
IF the only reason you are stepping back from creating new fields is that you do not want to customize with the fear that you might break things, your fear as somewhat irrational when I can see that you are on 7.6.04 that uses overlays.
If your reasons is that you might be creating more overheads by creating new fields, the
overhead that you will create is insignificant.
I would stay away from leveraging the use of their fields even if you are 100% certain that it is not used anywhere in any workflow, as there is no guarantee that will be the case in a forthcoming patch or release or once you install and integrate into a third party software..
That's my two cents..
And Happy Easter to you all reading this in advance..
Cheers
Joe

Hi All,
Are there any fields in the Incident that are there but not being used? There are 32 ‘z1D Char##’ fields. I have seen some workflow where some are used but if it was known for certain that some are not used anywhere then I could just use
one for some workflow/notifications that I need to do. I really would prefer not to create new fields if I can just use an existing temp fields.
ITSM 7.6.04
Thanks
Mark
