Maybe it's related to "Access Restrictions" on People form? What you see depends on what you insert into CMDBRowLevel (usually some Company, maybe field is empty?). So, if your profile has set Unrestricted Asset then you can see CIs (even if CMDBRowLevel is empty). If your profile has access to some particular Company and it's not the one in a CMDBRowLevel field, then ...you don't see the CI.
