Hi Dale,
There are 2 concepts of Company when using Hub and Spoke.

1. For a Company to participate in Hub and Spoke operations, it needs to be
defined (and created) on the Hub and given a Company Type of "Service Provider"
(it cannot have another Company type, although I have not confirmed this). The
associated Foundation data surrounding this Company is then distributed to the
Spoke servers (as configured). This centralises operations and allows control
from the Hub. When requests are created from the Spoke for these Companies, a
subset of data is transferred to the Hub for display in the Consoles. Drilling
down from the consoles re-directs the User to open the actual request on the
Spoke that it originated from (maintaining data security).
2. Companies defined on the Spoke servers, such as Operating and Customer, are
unique to the Spoke and operate independently of the Hub and Spoke operations
i.e. they do not participate in any Hub and Spoke operations. If you require a
Company to be on more than one Spoke you can either convert it to a "Service
Provider) and have it participate in Hub and Spoke operations, or re-create it
as a Spoke only Company on the target system. However, if it is re-created on
the Spoke system as a Spoke only Company, there is no interaction with the same
Company on other Spokes.

So to answer your question, if you define "ABC Corp" at the Hub as a "Service
Provider", the Company and associated Foundation Data will be distributed to
all Spoke servers configured. It is intended that you do not create any other
Company type on the Hub as the Hub functions differently to the Spoke (i.e.
used to re-direct to the correct Spoke server).

If you wanted "ABC Corp" to exist in 2 different Spokes, and not be a part of
Hub and Spoke operations, you can define this Company at the Spoke(s) with a
type of Operating Company/Customer and they will act independently from one
another and only be "local" to the Spoke on which they are defined.

Subject: Unique Company Names

We are looking at moving to ITSM 8.1 using the new "hub-and-spoke" architecture
and we are getting conflicting information from BMC Professional Services. Can
anyone verify that, in the architecture and version indicated above, that
Company names must be unique to a spoke, if the company type is "Operating
Company" or "Customer".

Put another way, can I have a customer company "ABC Corp" that exists in two
different spokes? (I realize that it will exist in both one spoke and the hub,
as the hub contains the set of all companies defined in all spokes, plus those
of the type "Service Provider".)

Any references would also be appreciated. The answer to this will heavily
influence our foundation data model. Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Dale Hurtt
