Hi,

Some data field changes will force the database to create a copy of the table
and all records into this slightly modified table. This can take a lot of
time, and there is not really any good way to prevent it.

I do not remember exactly when, but it could be on field deletes/additions and
when changing the size of char fields.

Being able to import in place is a good thing with newer versions, if you
still pay your support contract...

You can use our new RRR|DefDiff tool to create delta def-files with
new/changed objects, and also a backup of changed objects in the target
environment. That tool should work fine on 5.1.2 as it only works on
def-files.

You can use it to verify that all changes got to production.

I will do a presentation on that tool, and some other helper tools not yet
published at WWRUG13 in a week.
