And yet another bit of transportation information: If you are planning to come to SJ a few days early, or stay a few days after the conference, you might take a look at the Clipper Card. It is a stored value card which works on 8 or 9 transit systems, including VTA, CalTrain, MUNI, BART and (some of) the Bay Ferries. I've had one of these for a couple of years. On some systems you swipe the card in a slot and on others just tap the card reader to tag in. If you get one of these think twice about the auto-reload feature or you could (like me) have $19.50 left on your card from last year :-( See http://www.clippercard.com.

I just got off the phone with VTA (thanks, Natalie, for the phone number). I can confirm the following: It is bus #10 that will take you from SJC to the Light Rail - Metro Station There are vending machines where you can pay via credit card for your $2 pass (good for 2 hours) The sign on the train will say Winchester or Santa Teresa (there are no numbers) There are audio alerts about upcoming stops while on the train You want the San Antonio station at 2nd St. (Landmark: Starbucks) You will need to walk 1 block through the Paseo De San Antonio Walk (toward Johnny Rockets) The rear entrance of the hotel is across the street The return trip is even easier. Exit the rear of the hotel and stand there waiting for the train Northbound trains run on 1st St. Sign on train will say Alum Rock or Mountainview Vending machine is supposedly present Get off at the Metro Station stop Thanks, Joe, for the additional responses.
