I had used this method described by Charles on a 6.3 system, and since nothing has changed in the core system as far as row color configurations for table fields since then, the method described by Charles would be the only way to do it with the current system as well. And as Misi pointed out, take care on table qualifications while defining the table loop, else you would end up with a table field that does not load efficiently.
