While that looks like the logical way to reach that conclusion, I was wondering if that value of the NIC had some sort of a internal algorithm that calculates it based on the output of what you receive on a ipconfig /all for Physical Address. While this value is of the format XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX for IPv4, it is of the format XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX on IPv6 settings. So I suspect it might be a different value the way IPv6 interprets the identifier of the network card.
I may be way off with my conclusions and it may stay the same, but wanted to be prepared and prepare my customer for that change so there are no surprises later. Rather be prepared for that storm and have the storm not happen than to not be prepared :-) Joe _____ From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of LJ LongWing Sent: Monday, April 27, 2015 12:15 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Anything to watch out for when changing from IPv4 to IPv6?? ** I've yet to run a server with no v4, but I don't expect that to impact MAC, that is associated with the nic, not the protocol in use :) On Apr 27, 2015 9:44 AM, "Joe D'Souza" <[email protected]> wrote: ** I'm looking for your experiences out there when you have moved your existing AR System platform from IPv4 to IPv6? I was wondering if the Physical (MAC) Address changes? That would impact the AR Server Licenses. Would the Physical Address change? Can it be spoofed back to the old address like we could for IPv4 and still have things work? Is there anything else to watch out for? Any of the existing supported apps have a problem with IPv6 (I'm assuming no but thought I would ask for your experiences anyway). Have you'll faced any problem with any of the supported web servers after switching to IPv6? Have you'll faced any issues with the Mid-Tier application? Have you'll faced any problem with supported DB clients and their connectivity to the database? Have you'll had to reconfigure anything at all on your Firewall or your Load Balancers (specifically F5)? The above are just examples of questions I'm looking for answers to. If you'll have any gotchas outside of these questions, please share as it might help me with planning out an upgrade I am tasked with.
