The run menu can be made to work.
You can use the standard UNIX artemis download and follow the instructions at:
http://www.sanger.ac.uk/Software/Artemis/v8/manual/runmenu.html
Alternatively if you are using the MacOSX disk image (artemis_act.dmg) and want to activate BLAST and Fasta searches for Uniprot:
- download and install fasta
ftp://ftp.ebi.ac.uk/pub/software/unix/fasta/fasta34t26b2.shar.Z
Put this in Artemis.app/Contents/fasta and:
uncompress fasta34t26b2.shar.Z
cat fasta34t26b2.shar | sh
make -f Makefile.os_x all
2. download and install blast
ftp://ftp.ncbi.nih.gov/blast/executables/LATEST/blast-2.2.14-universal-macosx.tar.gz
Extract the tar ball:
tar zxvf blast-2.2.14-universal-macosx.tar.gz
Move the contents of the directory created (blast-2.2.14) to Artemis.app/Contents/blast-2.2.11
3. set up uniprot database
You can do this by using the setup_dbs.sh script in Artemis.app/Contents/blast-data
cd Artemis.app/Contents/blast-data
./setup_dbs.sh
