Hi Yoav, this old post helped me solve a similar problem I have on 2.3.4.1. I had deleted this permission for anonymous, not understanding what it was used for. I learned it the hard way.
But it still blows my mind why anonymous should need 'deploy' rights where all we ask is for him ro 'read'!! I had in the logs: "Metadata retrieval failed on repo 'nexus.codehaus.org-content-repositories-snapshots': User anonymous is not permitted to deploy ..."
