BEACH BOOK FORECAST Published in the Asbury Park Press 03/6/05By MARK VOGERStaff Writer IT'S ALWAYS KIND OF a kick to drive around Asbury Park on the Fourth of July, knowing that this place and time was immortalized in a song by Bruce Springsteen, "4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)." A forthcoming book about the city by Daniel Wolff borrows Springsteen's title. "Fourth of July, Asbury Park: A History of the Promised Land" ($24.95, Bloomsbury) examines the city's cultural history in 288 pages. Wolff writes of Asbury Park's religious origins, its rise as a tourist destination and its unique status as a home for performers from Count Basie to Frank Sinatra to Springsteen. The chapter titles focus on the Fourth of July of certain years, from 1870 to 2001. Springsteen and his co-hort in the E Street Band, guitarist Steven Van Zandt, are interviewed in "Fourth of July, Asbury Park," which should make a swell beach read.
