As JoeyDee's post implies, so little has been done that we are left
to bicker over paint. Of course, you and I and others realize that
this is the tragedy itself; that paint, whether we like or dislike
the colors, is the extent of rehabilitation and restoration. Let's
not care that roofs, arches and ramps are collapsing above, as long
as we get the color right.
One day I wasn't wearing my glasses and walk up to one of those
painted storefronts and tried to get a soda. They were so life-like
that I couldn't understand why the counterman wasn't responding to
me. (sic)
That's a great retail plan; cartoon tenants.
This weekend I had a conversation with a local merchant who I will
not identify. They were interested in operating the HoJo's on the
boardwalk. It is my understanding that the person that runs it has
an old, long-time, favorable lease on the premises which Asbury
Partners has to abide by. I hear Fishman is buying them out. When I
asked the merchant why they didn't buy the operations, they said
Fishman told them that the city would require repairs to the
property even the business were changed. I said why don;t you just
buy the entity. They said Fishman said he checked it out with the
city and that repairs would still be needed and that $150,000 would
just be a band-aid on what is really needed. I don;t understand,
isn't Fishman supposed to restore the buildings? Hey wait a moniute,
I forgot, it's AP.
