ASBURY PARK Police are investigating the rape of a 45-year-old city
woman about 12:30 a.m. Monday and expect to make an arrest in the case
shortly, police Capt. Anthony Salerno said Tuesday.
Salerno said the woman, who lives on First Avenue, was approached by a
man a few blocks away in the 1100 block of Dunlewy Street. He forced
her into a car, threatening to shoot her if she didn't get inside,
Salerno said.
The man took the woman to another area where she was raped multiple
times, police said.
"A car went by, and he became spooked and threw her out of the car,"
Salerno said.
He would not say how long the woman was in the man's vehicle.
The victim called 911 and was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical
Center, Neptune, Salerno said. She did not know her attacker, he said.
"We're pursuing a couple of solid leads, and we anticipate an arrest
on this case shortly," he said.
Police also are investigating the reported rape of a 47-year-old
Neptune woman in the 100 block of Second Avenue at 5:30 a.m. Saturday.
"She's alleged to have been struck with a blunt object and then
sexually assaulted," Salerno said. "She's not saying she knows the
person."
Anyone with information on either case is asked to call the police tip
line at (800) 799-8280.
