I think that the 'deliverables' for this project would include: * defining the best API for calculation of hessian matrices within ASCEND * working on how this would be implemented internally (eg compared with the relman_diff2 function) * implementing and testing calculation of hessian matrices * checking that the method implemented is efficient and scalable * completing the wire-up of IPOPT to ASCEND making use of the hessian matrix calculation code you wrote * providing a number of self-testing example models that successfully solve using ASCEND/IPOPT. * benchmarking the example models against CONOPT. I think that connecting IPOPT to ASCEND is our immediate priority. Other solvers such as integer programming would be very interesting but they are a lower priority, because of the typical domain of application of ASCEND to engineering and scientific problems, most commonly being nonlinear continuous problems.
