Hi,
I wished to share this, may be helpful for some.
I was trying to install ASCEND on my Ubuntu 10.10. It used to get terminated
by error 127. I found that installing lyx did the trick.
So, if you are also getting error while runing scons install, you may try
installing lyx ( either by synaptic or by 'sudo apt-get install lyx' ).
