I didn't realize anyone used anything else :-)

Since I have practically never used any other editor, I don't have
an opinion. 

I would imagine that other editors that feature syntax highlighting
would likely also be scriptable to the point where you can easily check
the contents of the first line of the file being opened, and if it
matches a given pattern, enable the relevant syntax highlighting.
