great, this is what I wanted!

For those interested, I copied xhtml11.conf to the directory I have my
asciidoc source files (see http://www.methods.co.nz/asciidoc/userguide.html#X27)
and changed a part of image-blockmacro from:

<div class="title">{caption={figure-caption} {counter:figure-number}. }
{title}</div>

to:

<div class="title">{title}</div>
<div class="caption">{caption={figure-caption}}</div>

And that is it.

BTW. I also had to copy asciidoc.js and asciidoc.css to appropriate
folders structure.
